Midwest Seasonal Beer Review: Day 1 – Sprecher Winter Brew

Posted in Uncategorized on December 12th, 2010 by Michael Sokolowski

Sprecher Brewing Company – Milwaukee, WI

Unlike many of the winter and holiday beers we drank the Sprecher bottle had the least seasonal label, not a bad thing since a few of them looked downright gaudy. It poured a deep amber almost brown color with an average clarity. Once poured, it looks like a good beer, the head was a little disappointing but maybe not a surprise for the style. What little aroma this beer has was malty. A pretty carbonated mouthfeel with a great toasted malty flavor. I say great, but it wasn’t the bold I was looking for from a winter beer. It lacked the warming spiciness of many of the other beers we had reviewed. It finishes quietly, some bitterness to balance the malty start, some may detect an alcoholic finish. Overall this is a solid beer. There are better winter beers, but if this was your only option, you wouldn’t be disappointed.

Overall – 2.75 of 5
Mike’s score – 3.5 of 5
