WI Beer lovers – Join the Wisconsin Brewer’s Guild!

Posted in Uncategorized on December 22nd, 2010 by Michael Sokolowski

With over 200 breweries state wide in the late 1800′s, Wisconsin was king of beer. That all changed after prohibition and brewery consolidation. By 1980 there were only 7 breweries in the state of Wisconsin. Since then micro-breweries and brewpubs have exploded in the nation and there are now more than 70 active breweries in the state. Although Wisconsin was at one time first in beer production, it is currently 9th. The Wisconsin Brewer’s Guild was created to promote these craft breweries. The guild gives craft brewer’s a voice in politics, stimulates collaboration between brewers and allows craft beer enthusiasts to celebrate the beer created in Wisconsin.

Memberships for Wisconsin Beer Lovers are $30/year. They offer great member benefits such as free tours, discounts on merchandise and free beer. Who can argue with that!

You will also receive a quarterly newsletter focusing on breweries who are part of the guild.

Support some of the best craft brewing in the world by becoming a Wisconsin Beer Lover member in the Wisconsin Brewer’s Guild. The Guild’s mission is to strengthen Wisconsin craft breweries, microbreweries, brewpubs, and the businesses who support us by creating a network that promotes, educates, and advocates for its members and the people who enjoy our products.

This is a great opportunity to support local craft beers in the Midwest. So sign up!

Welcome

Here is the first post of what I hope will become an authoritative, respected and cherished home to anyone who enjoys craft beer made from some of the finest brewmasters in the world. Midwestbeer.com will follow the beer scene, breweries and brew pubs located in America’s Heartland. Although our writing staff is located in Wisconsin, and initially we may follow local stories because of their convenience, we do plan on being fair to all craft beer in the Midwest. In fact, fairness is what prompted us to start this blog. Much to my chagrin, nearly every publication I read about beer tends to favor the costal breweries, or those of Colorado. I do agree many excellent beers come from the states of California, Oregon, Delaware and so on but in my opinion the beers of the Midwest deserve much praise and shouldn’t be overlooked in the national scene. Here we will promote, celebrate and discuss some of the best breweries in the country!

Prost!
