Coffee Stout

New Glarus Brewing Co. New Glarus, WI

I was expecting great things since most things New Glarus usually rock! Unfortunatly for those outside Wisconsin, New Glarus doesn’t distribute outside the state, and therefore you’ll just have to come visit. This beer was exceptional. It was very well balanced between the coffee and the beer. Unlike the Luna Coffee stout, this one did not taste like a cup of coffee that happened to be beer, it tastes more like a beer with hints of coffee. That’s neither good or bad, I liked the both equally, it just depends what mood you’re in.

The beer poured a rich dark color, slightly cloudy, with a low intensity aroma of coffee, toasted malty, and a slight nuttyness. The flavor was more intense but true to the aroma, and had an excellent mouthfeel, making this brew very drinkable. The balance between the coffee, the malt and the hops was like a all the traffic lights going your way on your way to a date with your dream girl, where everything goes as planned. The finish followed through with the decent lingering and flavors of coffee.
